Kate: Mines truly IS the school of my dreams

I can’t believe it’s over!
This year absolutely flew by. It’s insane to think that only nine months ago I was just starting school at Mines and now here I am, completed with my first year of college. I’m not going to lie, this year was tough. Along with the rigorous school work that I wasn’t used to in high school, I had a few health issues with dealing with insane migraines that made me go in and out of various doctor’s appointments throughout the year. Despite the fact that it was tough, I realized that Mines truly is the school of my dreams. I love the atmosphere, I love the community, and I even put up with the Slate cafeteria food for a year.

One of my favorite things to do was drive up to the top of Lookout Mountain. The view was the best.
The end of the year consisted of mainly stressing over finals. Dead week was dedicated to studying for hours each day in hopes of getting the grade that you want on each final. However, on dead day, the day before finals begin, the firework show that was supposed to go on during E-Days (but was canceled due to the fire ban) was finally displayed. I can honestly say that these were no ordinary fireworks – this was the most spectacular firework show that I’ve ever seen in my life. They had little bombs going off that produced mushroom clouds, it was just so amazing. The following weekend was filled with finals that completed my first year of college.

Fireworks!
After completing my first year of college, I must say that the thing that I’m going to miss the most about my first year is the dorm life. It was such a fun experience living in the dorms and meeting all these amazing friends that are there to both hang out and help you. I met some of the most amazing people that I’ve ever met in my life in the past year and I have to say that I owe most of that to the dorms. Next year, one of my friends I met in the dorm and I have an apartment up at Mines Park, and luckily, a few of our other friends are up at Mines Park as well. It’s been a good first year of college, and I can’t wait to see what next year has in store, but for now, I’m ready for summer break.

Goodbye Weaver East, we had some good memories.
