Another Year, Another Pile of Homework

Well, the start of spring semester certainly didn’t come too late. To be completely honest with you, I could have lived with a few more weeks of sleeping in and lounging around on the couch back in South Carolina, but that isn’t how college works. It’s back to good old Colorado and, at the same time, back to the grindstone. If you’re worried that the teachers will be reluctant to dive right into the nitty-gritty depths of physics or calculus the first day after break, don’t worry, you won’t be disappointed! I’ve already been saddled down with Calculus worksheets, Chemistry labs, Physics studios, and the Epics team project. However, so far I’m being a diligent procrastinator, putting everything off for as long as I can, and so far that solution seems to be effective. Of course, this weekend I’m going to have to catch up on all the work I’ve been avoiding. It probably would have been better just to get it over with

I do have an excuse for my extreme procrastination: fun dorm activities! Last weekend my super amazing RA, Ali, organized an awesome scavenger hunt all around Golden! Golden’s pretty small, so I assumed I knew all its secrets after one semester, but this scavenger hunt proved I was wrong. There’s a historical park full of chickens and old buildings down by Cold Creek I didn’t even know existed, and I got to learn a lot about the places I already know. The Old Capital Grill downtown was actually the first capital for the Colorado Territory before it became a steak. Now, who doesn’t want a little history with their steak?

Take a picture with the ferocious animal in front of the Visitor’s Center!

In addition to the planned group-activities, there’s been a lot of spontaneous fun and mayhem around the dorms as students settle in for another semester. Music and laughter constantly drift through the hallways as roommates reconnect and fill each other in on their vacations. Friends gather together to watch the Broncos follow their fearless leader Tim Tebow to an amazing win against the Steelers or a heartbreaking defeat by the Patriots. There have also been a few good-natured pranks between the boys and girls in the residence halls. A few days ago all the girls on my floor walked into the hallway to find an abundance of balloons given to us by the boys’ floor below us!

At Mines we take full advantage of balloons to experiment with static electricity.

I’ve been keeping myself busy with Zumba twice a week, countless movies on Netflix, online shopping, and Glee! Of course, this carefree enjoyment can only last so long… two more weeks to be exact. February 2nd marks my first test of the semester. After that I’m sure I’ll be swimming in calculus homework and chemistry calculations. Looks like I’d better make the best of the next few days! Al in all, t really is nice to be back!
