Tuesday, March 27, 2012Second semester is flying by! It sometimes seems like just yesterday I arrived on campus, a wandering little freshman. But suddenly I am three fourths of the way through my first year at Mines, and have no idea where the days have gone. Between homework and studying, it often seems like there is no time for fun. Luckily, my friends and I have had the chance to take a few March mini adventures. And even better than that, March was a magical month that contained a much-needed spring break!
The first adventure this month involved a 3-day weekend packed with two days of fun. It started with Soiree, a dinner/dance/awesomeness party that the Christian boys on campus organize as a way to treat the ladies well (they always treat us well, they just made us feel extra special that night!) The next day started with a delicious lunch at Golden City (the best Chinese food in town), followed by a trip to the Zoo, and concluding with a journey down 16th street mall that included stops at the Tattered Cover (a really cool bookstore), Hard Rock Café, and the Cheesecake Factory!! All in all, it was a pretty fantastic weekend!

A few weekends later, I had the honor of traveling to Pueblo with the pep band in order to cheer the Mines men’s basketball team to an RMAC championship! Band trips are always a blast and this was a great opportunity to chill with friends and show some school spirit. After the first game, the band journeyed to Golden Corral for a dinner that ended in chocolate fondue fountain escapades. One of our lovely drum majors tried chocolate covered pasta, steak, and fried shrimp and needless to say he was a bit hyper that night. Everyone went their own way when we got to the hotel, but after a few hours of board games and shenanigans, we all made our way to Denny’s for some midnight to 2am snacks. This late night snack time resulted in war… the card game and with paper airplanes! A legit weekend to say the least, ending perfectly with an RMAC champion title!!
Perhaps the best part of the month was spring break. Many people took off with friends in search of warm weather. I, however, headed to Mississippi for a mellow week with my favorite cousin! Spring break allowed for relaxed homework time (instead of frantic studying), and just some well deserved relaxation in general. I strongly suggest actually doing your homework in small parts during vacation instead of waiting until you get back; it definitely prevents a ton of stress!

My little Mines man!! I introduced my cousin to the coolest school ever, it's never to soon to start thinking about college!
