Sarah: Mines is Legit!

Friday, September 30, 2011

Mines is legit!  The classes are hard, the people are great, and there is never a time when there is nothing to do.  My first few weeks here have flown by, but I’ve settled into the Mines lifestyle and am so happy that I get to spend the next 4 years on this campus!

Randall 3rd

I live in Randall Hall, and in case anyone was wondering, Randall 3rd is amazing!  This week we are going swing dancing with some Mines Park boys and, even better than that, we are going to a Rockies game!!  My floor mates were some of my first friends here at Mines, and I love that we always make time in our busy schedules to just have fun together.

Study Buddies saved me from homework sickness!

Beyond my Randall pals, I have acquired many study buddies here at Mines. I am going to define study buddies as awesome friends who are just as fun to study with, as they are to hang out with!  Having “fun” study time is rather important here because it’s easy to get sick of homework, and Mines brings a whole new meaning to that concept.  I have literally been sick of homework here!  There was a night, when after working hard for hours my roommate and I started to feel ill.  We began to complain about feeling nauseous and having awful headaches but decided to keep pushing through our work.  When we finally finished we both felt perfectly fine!  It might sound crazy, but it happened, and it showed me how important it is to balance fun time and study time.  To prevent homework sickness and to promote a balanced lifestyle, my study buddies and I have planned a study/movie party for the upcoming weekend, and I can honestly say that I have never in my life been more excited to study!

Academics, I’ve got this under control!

The academics here were a little intimidating at first, but now that we are four weeks into the semester, and I’ve figured out my study habits, I’m starting to feel like I can handle Mines.  Classes have been intense up to this point; the profs move fast and there is a lot of material that they expect you to already know.  Now we are 4 weeks in and exams are fast approaching, but thanks to the friendly professors, the cool TA’s, and a few Academic Excellence Workshops, I think I’ve got this under control, and am ready to take on the tests.  Wish me luck!

Hiking with Randall 3rd, aka the coolest floor ever!! We let Weaver 3rd tag along so they could bask in our glory, but they're pretty cool too!

Who wouldn't love climbing a mountain while getting attacked with water and singing about whiskey and rum? The M-Climb was the best part of Orientation weekend, and my M-Climb gear will always serve as a reminder!
