Sarah: Sick of Stressin'
Sick, Sick, Sick
I know it’s been said a million times, but Mines is stressful! The stress is usually quite manageable, but it’s far more difficult to handle when you are sick. As I write this I am finally recovering from three weeks of being sick. These past three weeks included two colds and the stomach flu twice, definitely not fun!! When living in the dorms it’s pretty difficult to avoid getting sick, so here’s some advice for any incoming freshman: Take vitamins everyday, preferably some with extra vitamin C. Wash your hands more often than you did at home, there are a lot of people and thus a lot of germs here. Get a decent amount of sleep, it doesn’t always seem necessary, but it does help.
Mines Park Movie Nights
A good way to de-stress is to cut yourself off from homework for a night and just relax with friends. I do this by going to Mines Park every weekend for a movie night. These nights usually start with raiding friends movie stashes, or scrambling through blockbuster to find at least two good movies. Then we cram far too many people into a small Mines Park living room, and proceed to stay up until 3am watching movies and talking. On occasion, these movie nights become nap nights, which end in a wasted movie rental but slightly rested Mines kids. I would say that the napping is just as helpful, if not more helpful, in eliminating some stress than actually watching a movie!
Dorm Fun
There is always fun to be had in Randall Hall! Whether it is a weekly bible study, college night at Woody’s, or laundry day video games, there are always distractions from stress in the dorm. My favorite activity this month was Randall 3rd’s Halloween door decorating contest. More than half the girls on my floor covered their doors with cobwebs and creepy crawlies in order to brighten the hall. Top prize for the contest was $25 to spend at Target, and my awesome roommate and I won with an epic black light design!
