The Calm Before the Storm
Dear me has it been a busy few weeks. I will try to recount all important happenings chronologically, and hopefully I shan’t forget anything.
First was PIG DINNER! As I mentioned in my previous post, this is a Fiji event where all of the graduates from the chapter are invited back for a weekend. Events included bowling with the grads, grad vs. undergrad softball, and Pig Dinner itself! I had a blast and am already quite excited for next year.
Softball! Unfortunately we undergrads managed to get our butts kicked pretty badly by the grads.
Next was E-DAYS! And I must say that it certainly lived up to its reputation, I had a great time. I went to as many of the events as I could. The celebration started Thursday night with comedian Julian McCullough, who was very funny. That night was also Mr. Big Digger, a male beauty pageant sort of thing put on by the sororities on campus. Friday morning was the Orecart pull. This is a Mines tradition where students pull an orecart down Colfax all the way to the state capitol downtown, and then the governor comes out and officially declares it E-Days. This was also a blast, and there was free Chipotle at the end! There were two concerts, a techno/electronic show on Friday night, and the Cold War Kids on Saturday. Saturday afternoon was the carnival, with tons of free food, games, and the trebuchet launching competition.
In the midst of all this fun I have had a ton of schoolwork to keep up with. Last week I had 4 exams, all within 18 hours of each other. But now I have only one more exam before finals! I have found that I have actually had quite a bit of free time this weekend, which is quite unusual for me here. It’s been great to just sit back and relax and watch the NHL playoffs, as things are bound to get crazy again with finals quick approaching.
One last recent event—registration was last week! This is a perpetual headache for many students. While I wasn’t able to get in to all of the classes that I wanted, I managed to get a pretty good schedule:
My schedule for next fall. I also will be taking organic chemistry and C++ over the summer. Next semester will likely be my toughest at Mines.
And with that I am thinking it is about time for me to sign off. One more blog post to go! And when I next write, it will be with finals and my freshman year behind me.
