Managing Risks & Strategic Decisions in
Petroleum Exploration & Production

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
A practical, hands-on approach to modern techniques in risk management and strategic decision making for all aspects of petroleum exploration and production - prospect evaluation, resource allocation, diversification and risk sharing, corporate planning, and strategy develoment.

If you are a manager in the petroleum exploration and production industry, these issues are of concern to you. Attend our three-day seminar where you will learn to blend theory, practice, and common sense.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The Seminar is an advanced course designed for staff and middle-level to senior-level managers actively involved in a variety of functional levels in the petroleum industry. Oil company vice presidents of exploration and production, finance and planning, as well as exploration/engineering managers, economics/planning personnel, and financial managers will all find the Seminar stimulating and insightful. In additon, individuals performing similar functions in consulting firms as well as general managers from smaller companies will find the Seminar beneficial.

COURSE SCHEDULE
Day 1

  • Modeling and structuring complex E&P decisions
  • Decision analysis - utilizing influence diagrams and decision trees
  • Applications of decision and risk analysis to the petroleum sector
  • Utilizing decision analysis to improve the quality of your bidding efforts
  • Value of information and its application to the E&P setting
  • The value of sensitivity analysis and Monte Carlo simulation in E&P
Day 2
  • Modern portfolio management theory and application
  • Applying portfolio management to the E&P setting
  • Capital projects as real options evaluating investments
  • Corporate/financial risk tolerance and E&P decision making

Day 3

  • Financial risk tolerance and selecting the project s optimal share
  • Measuring your firm s corporate risk tolerance what s right?
  • Integration - Working to improve performance


REGISTRATION INFORMATION
The Seminar fee is $1,895.00 (US). The fee includes continental breakfast and lunch each day, as well as coffee breaks, tuition, and a notebook of the lecture and case study materials.

You may register electronically by clicking here: Register or send to the address below for a brochure with registration form. CSM reserves the right to cancel the course and return registration fees if enrollment is insufficient. Payment in full must accompany registration.

CSM will refund the course fee in full if the registration is canceled at least 30 days prior to the Seminar. Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the Seminar are subject to a 50% penalty. No-shows are liable for the entire Seminar fee. Personnel substitutions may be made at any time.

LOCATION
This course will be held on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.
