Norton Internet Security Firewall Fix
(This also applies to Symantec security products.)
Problem: Blank SSB Pages using Norton Internet Security (versions 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006) or Symantec firewall/security products.
When a user tries to access their Self Service Banner data through Trailhead (Self Service icon in upper right), the SSB portion of the portal pages are blank.
Explanation: The internet security software is treating SSB pages as if they were pop-up ads and blocking their display. The below solution (or something similar) should allow or permit the SSB pages to be displayed.
Solution:
- In Norton Internet Security, click “Options”.
- Click “Web Content” tab, then “Ad Blocking” tab.
- In the list of web sites on the left, add “banner.mines.edu”, and select it.
- Click the “Add” button underneath the list on the right.
- In the text box that appears, type “banner.mines.edu”, and select “Permit”, then select OK.
- Repeat #3-5 for “trailhead.mines.edu”.
- Symantec firewall/security products have similar settings to those described above.
- If you have installed an MSN Toolbar for Internet Explorer, similar settings may be modified through the MSN Toolbar.
