Dimension of the Month
As we continue to foster a supportive community that prioritizes personal and collective well-being on our campus, Every Oredigger is excited to introduce a new monthly series for the entire Oredigger community.
Each month of the 2024-2025 academic year (September through April), we’ll be highlighting a different dimension of well-being, providing resources related to the month’s dimension, information on well-being activities that students and employees can facilitate during meetings and details on programming happening that month in support of the theme. We’re also challenging you – our awesome Mines students, faculty and staff – to engage in some simple, yet meaningful, work to enhance that area of your well-being over the course of the month.
October’s Dimension: Intellectual Well-being
Finding meaning in what you do each day.
Monthly Challenge
Listen to a Podcast.
There is so much content available on many platforms with a variety of topics. This month may be the time to explore a new interest or dive deeper into something that interests you. Seek out learning wherever you get your podcasts!
This month, managers have two options to choose from, allowing them to select the one that best fits their department or organization.
Required time: 1-2 min / person
Please bring something to the meeting for “show-and-tell” for this month’s EveryOredigger activity. This could be a personal item, a hobby that you have outside of work, or anything that you wish to share with your team that helps you find meaning in what you do each day. You will have 1-2 min to share the item and why you chose to bring that with you to the meeting. Thank you in advance for your participation!
Next week we will each share a book that provided meaning to you. There are no restrictions on this question! Please be prepared to share the book title, author, and why it is meaningful to you. You will have 30 sec – 1 min to share this information during the meeting. Thank you in advance for your participation!
Programs and events this month
Embrace your emotional well-being at one of the many programs and activities happening on campus in October:
Trucks and Tunes
Thursday, October 17th from 11:00-2:00 on Marv Kay Way outside Brown Hall. Purchase lunch from one of the amazing food trucks and then enjoy some live music performed by members of the Mines community.
Little Library Book Exchange
October 24th from 11:00-1:00 in the Student Center Energy Room (E134). This is a fantastic opportunity for the Mines community to trade books they have already read for something new. Attendees can bring up to 3 of their favorite used books, and then can take an equal number of books in exchange.
Lectures
Students and Employees: Attend a lecture or presentation given by Mines Faculty or Visiting Scholars. Here are some upcoming examples:
- Van Tuyl Lecture: Kenneth Swift Bird, CSM GGE. “Quantifying Metal(oid) Source-link Dynamics in an Alpine Headwaters Stream”, Monday, October 7, Marquez Hall 126/Zoom, 12PM
- CS Seminar Series: Rolando Garcia on 10/8 at 4 PM in BB W210. Dr. Rolando Garcia, Arizona State University, “Flow with FLORDB: Agile MLOPS with Robust Metadata”
- CH Seminar: Fri Oct. 11th @ 9am | Prof. Lauren Marbella. Prof. Lauren Marbella, Columbia: “Linking structure to function at electrochemical interfaces: Li-ion and beyond” (CO 209)
