IT Device Updates
- Standard Device Coverage: IT now covers the cost of standard devices for all faculty and staff. View the specifications of these standard devices here.
- Device Replacement:
- Devices will be replaced every five years.
- Submit a ticket to request a new device for any employee with a device older than five years.
- All new employees are eligible for a new standard device. Submit a ticket upon their hire.
- Device Returns:
- When requesting a device for a new employee, please provide information about the departing employee’s device. If it was provided by IT, it must be returned for data wiping and inclusion in the loaner pool for part-time or adjunct faculty.
- For departing employees not being replaced, submit a ticket to return their IT-provided device.
- Department Purchased Devices:
- IT does not support equipment older than five years.
- Please note the age of any departmental devices you plan to retain.
- IT can assist with the recycling of outdated equipment.
- Non-Standard Device Requests:
- If the standard device does not meet your specific needs, submit a ticket to request alternative options. Matt Ketterling, Senior Director of Infrastructure Services, will work with you to explore suitable solutions.
Network Project & Printer Relocations
- Network Compatibility:
- The upcoming network upgrade will require the use of IT-standard printers (Blaster Print stations). Non-standard printers will no longer function on the network.
- Enhanced Printer Support:
- IT will assume full responsibility for all campus printers, including:
- Providing and maintaining all printers.
- Covering the cost of toner and paper.
- Ensuring regular refilling of supplies.
- Addition or relocation of Blaster Print Stations:
- IT will ensure the availability of secure printing stations on every floor of each building for convenient access by all staff and students.
- Secure Printing:
- Print jobs will only release when you authenticate at the printer using your Blaster card.
- Project Timeline:
- View the published schedule for building-specific changes on this website.
- Communication & Support:
- Building proctors will be notified in advance of any changes within their buildings.
- We encourage proctors to communicate these changes to all building occupants.
- For urgent supply needs or technical assistance, please contact the IT Service Desk at xHELP. Support is available until 9:00 PM weekdays and throughout weekends.
Misc topics
- Someone asked for the date that we will be transitioning to Lenovo and away from Dell. Our Infrastructure Services department is finalizing that transition now and we expect it to be complete by early next month. With the transition to the new vendor, there will no longer be a direct order website. All device orders should be done through IT so we can ensure compatibility with our network and systems. Please submit a ticket with any device ordering requests.
- Someone asked if we were allowed to recycle old personal technology through our recycle program. I reached out to Lauren Poole, our Sustainability Coordinator, and she said that our contract does not allow for personal recycling. However, they do have a box in the EHS office to recycle cell phones.
