Computer & Accessory Purchases

We encourage you to review your purchase plans with IT prior to making a purchase in order to assure that you are meeting your computing needs and that your purchase will be supportable in our campus environment.

Mines has established contracts with DHE and Apple.  Purchases made from DHE or Apple do not require additional quotes or solicitation.

You may purchase computers from other vendors; however, IT review, additional quotes or a solicitation may be necessary.

IT Review

All purchases of computers (including desktop, laptop, standard, specialized, etc.) must be submitted to IT for review prior to purchasing regardless of the cost.  IT will work with Procurement to complete the computer order.

Standard Device Coverage

IT covers the cost of standard devices for all faculty and staff. View the specifications of these standard devices.

Device Replacement
  • Devices will be replaced every five years
  • Submit a ticket to request a new device for any employee with a device older than five years.
  • All new employees are eligible for a new standard device. Submit a ticket upon their hire.
    Device Returns
    • When requesting a device for a new employee, please provide information about the departing employee’s device. If it was provided by IT, it must be returned for data wiping and inclusion in the loaner pool for part-time or adjunct faculty.
    • For departing employees not being replaced, submit a ticket to return their IT-provided device.
      Department Purchased Devices
      • IT does not support equipment older than five years.
      • Please note the age of any departmental devices you plan to retain.
      • IT can assist with the recycling of outdated equipment.
        Non-Standard Device Requests

        If the standard device does not meet your specific needs, submit a ticket to request alternative options. Matt Ketterling, Senior Director of Infrastructure Services, will work with you to explore suitable solutions.

        Lenovo

        Mines has a contract with DHE to provide Lenovo computers for campus purchase.  To order a Lenovo, please contact the IT department using the link below or calling.

        Apple

        In order to purchase a computer from Apple, you must have an account.  To set up an account, please send an email to our account representative at Apple.  Purchases less than $5k may be made using a OneCard.  Purchases more than $5k require a PO, and will be completed by your Purchasing Agent within the Apple system. You will receive a notification once processed.

        NOTE: All Macs purchased will come pre-enrolled in our Mines environment. This will not affect any administrative access to the machine. For questions please reach out to ITS.

        Technology Requirements

        You are responsible for ensuring that any computer hardware or software meet the minimum technology requirements outlined by ITS.  If minimum requirements are not met, you may encounter issues working in the Mines online environment.

        Amazon – Restricted Purchases

        You may purchase computer accessories using your Mines Amazon business account. Some items may be listed as “restricted.”  If an item you wish to purchase has a restricted warning, please contact IT to check whether the item can be ordered or what alternatives exist.
