About Paula.
Paula Farca received her PhD and a second MA from Oklahoma State University. Her research focuses on two main areas:
- contemporary, indigenous, and women’s literature, and
- 2. literature on energy and the environment.
Along with numerous articles and book chapters, Paula has published Identity in Place: Contemporary Indigenous Fiction by Women Writers in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand (2011) and coauthored A Student’s Guide to Nature and Human Values (2010 and 2013). Paula also edited three anthologies: Make Waves: Water in Contemporary Literature and Film (2019), Energy in Literature: Essays on Energy and Its Social and Environmental Implications in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literary Texts (2015) and Speculations: An Anthology for Reading, Writing, and Research (2006).
Since 2008, when she joined HASS, she has tried to introduce our future engineers to the joy and intellectual excitement of reading and critical thinking and inspire them to become competent writers.

About Ann.
Ann works at McKinstry, a national design-build construction and consulting company in energy efficiency. She is responsible for coordination support of McKinstry’s powerED program’s ‘People’ module where she leads awareness and engagement events to increase energy efficiency for her clients. At Mines she works closely with the Sustainability Office and Facility Management Team to organize training opportunities for students, faculty and staff and partner on campus sustainability goals. Utilizing social science best practices, she creates client specific energy efficiency campaigns designed to target occupant behavior change and works with faculty across campus on ways to involve students in energy and sustainability initiatives and projects.
About Lauren.
Lauren Poole received a Green MBA (Master’s Degree in Sustainability and Business Administration) from Marylhurst University in Oregon and a BA in Journalism and Political Science (double major) from the University of New Mexico. She manages the Sustainability Office and is responsible for coordination and outreach on energy, water, and waste reduction initiatives, including sustainable laboratory practices. She also is responsible for sustainability planning and reporting and is faculty advisor to the student Green Team. She works with faculty across campus on ways to involve students in energy and sustainability initiatives and projects.
