Renewal Process
Eligibility to Renew
All Mines Park residents are eligible to renew their Mines Park contracts for an additional 12 months UNLESS they have resided at Mines Park for 3 years or longer (by the end of the current contract). Mines Park residents must additionally meet the credit hour requirements, as outlined in the contract, during the Fall and Spring semesters of the academic year in which they plan to continue residing at Mines Park.
Section 2. Term: “The maximum length of stay in any Mines Park unit for any Resident shall not exceed three (3) years without the express written consent of the Director of Housing and Residence Life, or designee of Residence Life.”
Section 6. Resident and Occupant Eligibility: “Unless otherwise approved by Mines, eligibility for residency at Mines Park is limited to undergraduate students who are enrolled for a minimum of nine (9) credit hours per semester at Mines and graduate students who are enrolled for a minimum of four (4) credit hours per semester at Mines, except during summer sessions.”
Renewal Process Overview
Upper-division students (third-year, fourth-year, and graduate students) can renew their contract at The Village at Mines Park in February. Renewing your contract means that you will extend your current contract by 12 months.
- Renewal Window Opens: Mid-February
- Audience: Current residents of Mines Park
Q: What does it mean to renew? A: Renewing your Mines Park contract means that you will extend your current contract by 12 months. Current contract ends on May 31, and a renewed contract begins on June 1 and continues through May 31 of the following year. |
Q: What if I do not renew my contract? A: If you do not renew your contact, you must vacate your unit by May 31. We cannot provide extensions beyond this date. |
Q: What if I don’t plan to be here for an additional 12-months (e.g. graduating in December)? A: This is an important consideration in deciding whether to renew. Mines Park residents are eligible to cancel their contract without penalty if the reason for cancellation meets a Qualifying Event. You can read more about Qualifying Events in the Mines Park contract under Section 25. Cancellation or Termination of Contract by Resident. Qualifying Events include:
So, for example, if you plan to graduate at the end of the fall semester, you will be eligible to cancel your Mines Park contract without penalty and not be obligated to the full 12-month term of the renewed contract. If you plan to study abroad in the spring semester, you may also cancel your Mines Park contract without penalty and not be obligated to the full 12-month term of the renewed contract. |
Q: Do I have to pay rent over the summer if I won’t be here? A: Yes, the renewed contract dates are June 1 through May 31 and you will be billed accordingly. Please consider your summer plans in your decision to renew. If you will not be in Golden over the summer but you want to keep your belongings in your unit, you will be charged monthly rent, as you are still occupying the unit. If you do not want to pay rent during the summer months, you will need to vacate by May 31. You may reapply to Mines Park in March when the application opens for new 10-month contracts (August 1 – May 31). Apartment offers are made via lottery and are not guaranteed. |
