Mines Sustainability Scavenger Hunt:
Stop #11
Chemistry at Coolbaugh Hall!
Home to the Chemistry Department and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Coolbaugh Hall has the most fume hoods on campus and is one of the biggest energy users. Join the movement to reduce energy waste by signing the Shut the Sash commitment posters saying that when you are in the labs, you’ll work safety and limit energy waste by closing the fume hood sashes when not in use. The Sustainability Office has other Green Lab initiatives including nitrile glove, block Styrofoam, and pipette box recycling as well as resources to use “green” materials to replace common chemicals in experiments. Check out the Sustainability Office webpage for more information!
A Mines Graduate student demonstrates lab safety and sustainability by shutting the sash in between experiments.
Hint for the next stop: a good place to grab some coffee, check out a book, or sleep in a beanbag chair
11th clue: First letter of the dorm where Mines Market is located
