Sustainability Reports

Mines has earned a STARS Gold rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements during the last three years (2022-2024) from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.
AASHE boosted Mines’ rating from Silver to Gold for its sustainability achievements in Operations, Academia, and Research over the last several years (2022-2024). Among the projects that boosted Mines to Gold include installation of 1.5 megawatts of solar on campus and construction of sustainable buildings certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as LEED Platinum and Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Engagement on energy and water conservation and energy efficiency measures that resulted in energy and water savings also contributed to the Gold rating. Other operational efforts include expansion of campus composting, a new greenhouse, and launch a new free community shuttle program in partnership with the City of Golden that serviced more than 100,000 riders in 2024.
