CODE OF CONDUCT
Discipline Policy
- The Residence Hall Handbook is the general discipline guideline for non-scheduled hours during SUMMET. The Resident Assistants (RAs) will provide supervision and maintain discipline during these hours.
- During scheduled activities (academic classes, projects or outdoor activities), the scheduled instructors, administrative and academic SUMMET coordinators will provide supervision and maintain discipline.
- All discipline problems will be reported to the SUMMET Program Director and resolved as quickly as possible.
- Students in SUMMET will be expected to show common sense and respect the rights and privacy of others.
- Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in administrative action such as dismissal from class or activity. Serious violations may warrant dismissal from SUMMET and being sent home.
Miscellaneous Policies
- Gambling is prohibited.
- Firearms, knives and other devices deemed unlawful or inappropriate by the SUMMET Program Director are not permitted on campus (except pocket knives).
- No drinking of alcoholic beverages or smoking is permitted during the entire program.
- Any damages caused by students in the SUMMET program will be billed to the parent/guardian of the student responsible for the damages.
- “Safety-first” will be the watchword for all SUMMET activities.
- The students accepted for SUMMET are expected to show a great deal of responsibility for themselves and respect the rights of others.
- Students must always be accompanied by a mentor.
- The SUMMET Program Director, faculty and staff are here to provide guidance, assistance, counseling, instruction, advice, friendship and discipline (if necessary).
- If, at any time, you have questions or problems, please contact a staff and/or faculty member to assist you. We all need to work together and cooperate to ensure the success of SUMMET.
Consequences
All SUMMET staff members have the authority to write up students for behavior they find inappropriate. All warnings and offenses will be reported to the SUMMET Program Director, who ultimately can ask a student to leave at any time if they find such punishment to be necessary.
Warnings:
Two (2) warnings equal one offense.
- Tardiness
- Late project work
Offenses:
Two (2) offenses will result in a phone call home to parents; Three (3) offenses will result in automatic dismissal from the program.
- Unexcused absences for the SUMMET mandatory events
- Being disrespectful to SUMMET staff or students and Mines staff or students
- Lack of effort
- Leaving campus without permission
- Any violation of the SUMMET Code of Conduct
Automatic Dismissal:
Any act that would jeopardize the integrity of SUMMET including but is not limited to:
- Cheating
- Stealing
- Harassment
- Consuming alcoholic beverages
- Smoking on-premises
- Defacing Mines property
- Violating the Mines Computing Contract
