Project Info
Distributed Spacecraft Network
Qi Han | qhan@mines.edu
This project aims to develop a framework for tight integration of communication and controls as an enabling technology for NASA to effectively deploy swarms of small spacecraft. This framework will make it possible for a network of self-organizing small spacecraft to be highly collaborative among themselves for the monitoring of time-varying and geographically distributed phenomena. This project will set up a multi-drone testbed to evaluate the proposed algorithms and system.

Grand Engineering: Engineer the tools of scientific discovery
Student Preparation
Qualifications
Student should be familiar with basic data structures and C/C++/Python programming and willing to learn how to program drones.
Time Commitment
10 hours/week
Skills/Techniques Gained
Student will develop an understanding of embedded systems programming, distributed networking, and robot swarm communication.
Mentoring Plan
The student will be working closely with grad students on the same project; attending weekly project meetings with faculty to discuss problems and solutions.
