This menu is a tool for you to use to explore opportunities at Mines outside of the classroom. These are not requirements, but rather recommendations to help you leverage what Mines has to offer. Just like at a restaurant, choose what looks best to you and start from there! This menu can help you create your own pathway and customize your experience during your time at Mines.
The activities are placed in specific years below based off staff and faculty recommendations, but you can participate in most of them at any time. There is never a wrong time to get involved if you’re looking, and no pressure to do any of these things!
Get to know Electrical Engineering
The undergraduate Electrical Engineering degree at Mines strives to produce future leaders who can serve the profession, the community, and society. We cater to various industries including electric power and energy, renewable energy, aerospace, communications, robotics, and diverse industries that rely on embedded intelligence to manage data and systems.
Students graduate with relevant and cutting edge technical knowledge through the core courses and very well-designed specialized electives in the areas of energy systems and power electronics, antennas and wireless communications, information and systems sciences, and integrated circuits and electronics. Undergraduate students in the department have the opportunity to participate in research projects along with graduate students and the faculty.

- Become an officer in your student organization
- Apply to be an Undergraduate Writing Fellow, a peer tutor in the Writing Center. Check the Daily Blast for information in early October.
Professional Development
- Attend the IEEE Evening with an Executive before Career Days to network (departmental)
- Attend Career Day for summer internship positions
- Consider opportunities for graduate schools
- Take Introduction to Research Ethics (SYGN 502) or Professional Oral Communication (LICM 501), both are graduate classes but accessible to Undergraduates.
- Write an article for SWE’s annual newsletter
